CBI begins probe into Cambridge Analytica and facebook data leak case

It need be recalled that Cambridge Analytica case was of international proportions

In a major development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has begun probe in the Cambridge Analytica data theft of Indians from Facebook.

It follows from a few days back when the Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad had directed the CBI to look into the case.

It need be recalled that Cambridge Analytica case was of international proportions.

It has been alleged that data of Indians was stolen from the social media site and that it amounts to violation of privacy rights.

Furthermore, it emerged that the user data too was transferred without consent which is illegal.

The whistleblower in the case, Wylie in a statement on Twitter in March this year also revealed that SCL Group, the parent organisation of Cambridge Analytica, has its office headquartered in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram and its regional offices in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Cuttack, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Patna and Pune.

“SCL/CA works in India and has offices there. This is what modern colonialism looks like,” he had tweeted.
