The Central Bureau of Investigation that is still probing the infamous Vyapam scam of Madhya Pradesh is now known to have withdrawn as many as 70 percent of its staffers from the local Vyapam team.
The team’s office had been set up Professors’ Colony office in Bhopal.
The issue had been handed over to the CBI after as many 50 people related to the Vyapam scam were killed in mysterious circumstances.
This is crucial as the state of Madhya Pradesh is headed for state election later this year.
The issue however has given all the more ammunition to the Congress whose spokesperson KK Mishra said that even though the probe had been handed over to the CBI with high hopes but now those hopes have dashed.
The CBI, for its part, said that the recent withdrawal of 20 officers will not impact the pending cases in Vyapam scam.
A report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), released in early 2017, had slammed the state government headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Vyapam scam.>
