As the dispute rages on in the case of alleged conflict of interest in the ICICI Bank lending loans to the Videocon Group, the latest development is that the CBI has now registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) against Chanda Kochhar’s husband Deepak Kochhar.
Sources now confirm that the CBI needs to ascertain allegations of nexus between Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot.
Deepak Kochhar and Venugopal Dhoot find themselves in the middle of a controversy to the tunes of a bad loan amounting to Rs 3,250 crore sanctioned by the ICICI Bank to the Videocon Group.
According to latest reports, it is said that the Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot allegedly gave Rs 64 crore in 2010 through an entity NuPower Renewables Pvt Ltd (NRPL), whose co-founder and CEO is Deepak Kochhar.
It is alleged that Dhoot transferred proprietorship of the company to a trust owned by Deepak Kochhar for Rs 9 lakh six months after he received the loan from ICICI Bank.
However, the PE does not name Chanda Kochhar, the MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, as under any Preliminary Enquiry.>
