Despite the major allegations of users data breach against Facebook, the Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat today said the Facebook would remain the poll panel’s social media partner even during the Karnataka assembly elections.
Rawat also delved into the recent allegations of poll panel looking into how the apps of different politicians and political parties may be sharing users’ data with others even without their consent.
The CEC said that the social media cell of the CEC will make necessary recommendations to the commission.
The CEC in his response said that the social media is a reality and its existence cannot be questioned now. He added that the CEC would take all precautions to ensure that Indian elections are not adversely influenced because of such errors.
It need be mentioned that the Election Commission uses Facebook to encourage young people to enroll as voters.
