Could the red rebels in Chhattisgarh state of India be training the youngsters in rural parts of restive Bijapur and Dantewada districts in Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) to cause collateral damage to the rurals and security forces alike. While the Bastar Range DIG Sunderraj P has dismissed such reports and said that police has no intel as such on rural youth being trained in IEDs, he said that they do come across intelligence that Naxals are training their cadres in IEDs as they carry out anti-Naxal drive. But such speculations did raise the alarm in state security apparatus which does not want a spike in naxal activities especially with elections merely a year ahead.
It has been speculated that Naxals have prepared training manual in local Gondi language to enable the rurals to pick it up fast but so far the police has only been able to heighten security and not found any proof of these rumors. But the police forces as well as other para-military forces stationed in Chhattisgarh’s restive areas would not want o take any chances and have surely increased vigilante. It need be recalled that IEDs have caused severe damage to the security personnel in the past and are the easiest tools at the hands of red rebels to strike at the forces.
