Congress in Chhattisgarh would be embarking on a Sankalp Yatra today from Jhiram Ghati in remembrance of the martyrs of the massacre that had been carried in the area by the naxals.

Apart from top state level Congress leaders, many of the security personnel had also lost their lives in the one of the deadliest attacks of the country.

At the time, the then Chhattisgarh Congress president Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh Patel, veteran party leader Vidya Charan Shukla, former Leader of Opposition and tribal leader Mahendra Karma were martyred in the attack as they were on the Privartan Yatra right before state election of 2013.

The attack had shaken the entire country and national level polity of India.

It was by the same evening that Rahul Gandhi had arrived in Raipur and by the next day, the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the then Congress president Sonia Gandhi had arrived in Chhattisgarh capital to assess the situation.

Congress leaders have planned to visit Faraspal, the native village of leader Mahendra Karma, to garland his statue and pay tributes.

This time however, the officials of the state administration have reiterated that enough security has been provided to the Congress leadership as they embark on the Sankalp Yatra.

It need be mentioned that Chhattisgarh is due to hold state election by the end of this year.
