Chile struck by earthquake, tsunami warning cancelled

A magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit the coast of north-central Chile.

The scale was measured by the US Geological Survey.

Local sources said that the earthquake rattled buildings farther south in the capital city of Santiago.

It was ascertained that the quake was 53 km (33 miles) below the surface.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, however, quickly discarded a tsunami threat following the tremor.
