Cong approaches Supreme Court on CBI chief’s forced leave

Congress is of the opinion that the government's move is completely illegal

Congress has gone ahead and approached Supreme Court against the government’s move to send CBI chief Alok Verma on forced leave.

The party is represented in the top court by senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Congress is of the opinion that the government’s move is completely illegal.

Kharge, in his petition, pointed out that the transfer of an incumbent director should have the approval of the selection committee.

Kharge, it need be known, is also the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and is also part of the committee that selected Alok Verma as the CBI boss.

The other two members of the selection committee are the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice.

Congress alleges that the Alok Verma was continuing with probe into Rafale jet fighter deal and this is why he was divested of his powers and forced on leave.
