Congress leader Ahmed Patel, in his attempt at pointing to agrarian distress, under the BJP-led NDA centre, went on to cite the alarming fall in wholesale food prices since 2014.
But the tweet was at best a self-goal by the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.
Patel said that farmers are being made to bear the cost of low inflation and that in the last 4 years their prices barely increased by 3.6%.
It was then that Jayant Sinha, minister of state for civil aviation, came forward to thank the Congress leader for accepting that NDA government has kept food inflation on leash unlike what happened in UPA tenure.
He tweeted, “Dear Ahmedbhai, thanks for accepting that there was high food inflation during UPA and that NDA Govt has kept food inflation on a tight leash. All this while ensuring rising farmer incomes!”.
Congress has not had much luck with its tweeted barbs lately.
It was only recently that former Union Cabinet minister Salman Khurshid, speaking at a public function acknowledged that “the Congress does have blood (of Muslims) on its hands”.
His comment came in answer to a question about Congress rule during the time of the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992.>
