Congress alleges police brutality, demands judicial probe

It could have been just another political protest but the sheer brutality of it and that too caught on camera inflamed it to be political row of epic proportions.

It so happened that the Congress workers were on their way to throw garbage at the residence of Minister Amar Agrawal to protest the comment from him where in he had described the Congress as garbage.

The Congress then gheraoed the official bungalow of the Minister and raised slogans where after they tried to throw in the garbage as symbolic protests.

But the police then suddenly took stringent view of the protest and began caning the protestors.

Very many of the Congress workers at the protest site described the caning as punishing and indiscriminate.

The whole police action was caught on cameras of the journos.

The episode has left the Congress leadership in Chhattisgarh fuming and state President has demanded a probe into the incident by sitting High Court judge.

It need be mentioned that both the parties are going to try to capitalize over the episode as the state election is mere weeks away.

The ruling party was quick to dissociate itself from the caning and blamed the Congress and police for the unruly scenes witnessed.

BJP said that while political protests are right in a democracy, it must not exceed certain limits

The ruling party said that police should have been able to prevent the opposition party workers from nearing the premises.
