Congress chief meets Muslims intellectuals, ‘soft Hindutva’ comes up

With the Congress party lately appearing keen on adopting a ‘Soft Hindutva’ image party, the party chief Rahul Gandhi met the Muslim intellectuals and allayed their fears on many counts.

The intellectuals are said to have shared their apprehensions of the Congress lately that it is fast adopting a “soft-Hindutva” approach to win back Hindus.

The Hindus are now seen primarily as voters of the BJP.

The meeting with Muslim intellectuals was part of a series of interactions planned by the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due next year.

It is also being seen as counter to the BJP ‘sampark se samarthan’ campaign.

Among people who attended the meeting included former planning commission member Syeda Hameed, JNU professor Zoya Hasan, former president of Aligarh Muslim University Z K Faizan, educationist Ilyas Malik and retired bureaucrat A F Faruqui.

Former minister Salman Khursid and Congress minority committee head Nadeem Javed were also present.
