After NCP candidate Vandana Chavan backed out of Deputy chairperson election contest, the main opposition Congress has decided to field lawmaker BK Hariprasad as candidate for the joint opposition.
Hariprasad has filed in his nominations as well.
Several opposition parties, who have joined hands against the BJP, decided to field a joint candidate to take on the NDA nominee Harivansh Narayan Singh of the Janata Dal (United).
The election is to happen on August 9.
It need be mentioned that BK Hariprasad, well into his sixties, is a Congress member of Rajya Sabha from Karnataka.
Hariprasad himself told the media that Congress must have taken this decision after a lot of thinking.
BJP-ally Akali Dal too confirmed today that they will be supporting the government’s candidate for the election tomorrow.
The figure will increase by 2 more if the YSR Congress, which has refused to support the BJP, votes for it.>
