Consortium of airlines to bid for Air India; as part of privatization

government expects to complete the privatization of Air India this year

Two consortiums involving IndiGo and Qatar Airways as well as that of Jet Airways, Air France-KLM and Delta Airlines may bid for the Air India.

It need be mentioned that the ailing national carrier of India is open for divestment and sources speculate that the the net worth criteria that bidders must meet is likely to be fixed at Rs 1,000 crore.

This when a group of ministers is still in the process of finalising the contours of Air India stake sale.

But then the civil aviation ministry had said that it had officially received an expression of interest for Air India.

It is learnt that the government is likely to retain a 24 percent stake in the national carrier.

The government expects to complete the privatization of Air India this year.
