Ayurvedic home remedies for Constipation

A person who has hard stools and has not had evacuation for 2 or more days is said to be constipated.

Constipation could be due to insufficient food or fluid intake, disordered action of the bowel muscle, or habitual failure to empty the rectum.

Acute constipation signifies obstruction or paralysis of the gut of sudden onset.

Easy life and sedentary habits, lack of exercise and rich food can cause constipation.


         Methi: Soak overnight a spoonful of methi in a glass of water and drink early in the morning on empty stomach.


        Luke warm water: Drink a glass of lukewarm water with a little lemon juice on empty stomach early morning and take a short walk.


        Hot milk: Drink a glass of hot milk before going to sleep; and on getting up, drink lukewarm water.


         Take one teaspoonful triphala powder, twice a day either with hot water or hot milk


        Eat, plenty of green leaves as vegetables, prepared with a little oil.


       Maize: Eat in any form with green vegetables.


        Isapgol: Soak the husk (bhusi) of isapgol (can be brought from the shop) in water and drink early in the morning on empty stomach and before sleep.



       Take sanai churnam: Dose: 1tsp. with jaggery and hot water before sleep. Take a short walk after taking the medicine.


 Amaltas (cassia fistula):Boil the flesh (gudda) of the ripe fruit in 4 ounces of water and reduce it to 2 ounce. Drink one teaspoonful before sleep.


 Those who suffer from constipation should drink plenty of water during the day, and should have enough exercise.
