The contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill came in way of Republic Day function, at least in Mizoram state.
This was evident as Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan had to address an almost-empty ground on the 70th Republic Day.
The many organizations were staging boycott against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Apart from police, ministers, legislators and top officials were also present.
The boycott call was given by the NGO Coordination Committee, an organisation of civil society groups and student bodies.
The Republic Day celebrations passed off peacefully without any untoward incident.
In his address, Mr Rajasekharan said stringent measures would be taken to protect state borders, and welfare schemes for the development of people residing in border areas would be given due importance.
