Court directs for govt to hold talks with ‘Rath Yatra’ organizers

On the proposed Rath Yatra of the BJP in Bengal, the division bench of the Calcutta High Court on put aside the single bench’s restraint order.

The court now, instead, directed the state government to hold talks with the organizers of the Rath Yatra.

The court while passing the order left scope for modification of BJP’s programme, but directed the state to cite “valid reasons” in its report.

In the court on Friday, state officials came under fire for not holding talks with the BJP organizers who had informed the administration about its programme on October 29 and thereafter sent five reminders.

CM Mamata Banerjee didn’t comment on the order.

The division bench of Justice Biswanath Somadder and Justice Arindam Mukherjee also held that the trial court’s restraint order was not sustainable.
