Auqib didn’t panic when the grenade fell into his lap. He threw it out, saving the lives of at least 15 people.
Near a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Kashmir’s Sopore. Two security personnel and a civilian were injured in a grenade attack, allegedly planned by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT),
But so many more could have been injured, or even killed, if it hadn’t been for SPO Auqib Ahmad, who was one of those who suffered minor injuries.
For it was Ahmad whose lightning-quick reflexes made sure that the live grenade that fell into his bunker, manned by other police and CRPF personnel, didn’t explode inside it.
SSP Harmeet Singh told that Auqib will be suitably rewarded. And he’ll also be inducted into the force as a constable.
The Sopore Police have blamed the attack on the LeT, a Pakistan-based terrorist group led by 26/11 attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed.
The LeT has an almost negligible presence in North Kashmir, and the group appears to have hired a local for a hit job.
