In another major achievement for the infra sector of the nation, the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International airport has claimed place into the league of the top 20 busiest airports in the world for 2017 in terms of traffic volumes.
The New Delhi airport is said to have climbed notches from 22nd rank in 2016 to 16th rank.
It also illustrates how the airport has now emerged to be one of the fastest growing airports in the world for passenger traffic.
The ranking is based on the preliminary passenger traffic results for the most-travelled airports in 2017.
The data is confirmed by the ACI.
While the top slot went to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International airport (ATL), it is said to have registered 103 million passengers (both departing and arriving).
ACI’s World airport traffic forecasts also predicts that the country will represent the third largest aviation market, in terms of passenger throughput.
Thus India will stand only after US and China.>
