Amid ball tampering allegations, the Cricket Australia has said that Steve Smith was to remain captain.
This after the scandal emerged during the third Test against South Africa.
It need be mentioned that there have been calls for Smith to step down or to be sacked over what is being termed as the premeditated plan that may have been hatched during the lunch break in Newlands after the captain admitted being the mastermind.
Australia Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull too has reacted on this episode.
While it has been maintained that Cricket Australia is shocked and in awe that such allegations should surface, they are nonetheless bent upon getting clearer picture of the facts before making any decisions.
Meanwhile Cricket Australia’s head of integrity Iain Roy and head of team performance Pat Howard were flying to South Africa to conduct the investigation.
It is said that the television footage showed Smith’s teammate Cameron Bancroft taking a yellow object out of his pocket while fielding in the post-lunch session and appearing to rub it on the ball.
He was later charged with attempting to change the condition of the ball.>
