‘Diyas’ made of cow dung being promoted for pollution free Diwali

The debate is ongoing as to how to ensure pollution free Diwali and it is in this context that lamps made out of cow dungs are getting famous.

Based in Delhi, the women of Dhyan Foundation are creating ‘diyas’ out of cow dung, essential oils and clarified butter.

Organization functionary Reema Anand said that returns from sale of such diays would be invested in safe upkeep of cows so that milk products they generate remain of high quality.

The diyas could very well be used as fertilizer or manure after the festival is over which may not be the case with other designer diyas.
