DMK patriarch being closely monitored, Prime Minister calls up Stalin

DMK chief's house is for now flooded with friends and well wishers

Ailing former Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi’s health is said to be closely monitored.

As of now, sources said, the veteran leader is being treated at his home in Chennai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up the Karunanidhi’s son MK Stalin as well as daughter Kanimozhi to inquire about the health of the DMK patriarch.

He is also said to have offered help.

Stalin however, took to Twitter where he posted, “Karunanidhi has overturned countless obstacles, failures and betrayals into accomplishments. Let’s follow his footsteps. Karunanidhi has spent 80 years in public life, 70 years in cinema and arts, 50 years as DMK Chief.

Doctors have said that Karunanidhi is being treated for fever due to urinary tract infection with intravenous antibiotics and fluids.

The DMK chief’s house is for now flooded with friends and well wishers as they learnt of the ailing veteran.

His family has reportedly decided against admitting him in hospital and wants his treatment at his home in Gopalapuram.

Deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and actor-politician Kamal Haasan called on him late on Thursday evening after doctors reported a slight decline in his health.
