In what could be termed as setback for the West Bengal government, the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday slammed the state government over its decision to bar the immersion of Durga idols on October 1, also the scheduled day of Muharram. The court asked why the two communities can’t celebrate together. Meanwhile, the acting Chief Justice of the High Court will pronounce the final order to settle the debate once and for all, on Thursday. It need be mentioned that BJP and state government led by Mamata Bannerjee were at confrontation course on this issue untill the court intervened. The court also asked the state government why it was creating “communal distinction” between Hindus and Muslims in the state.
