Working against all odds, ECoR (East Coast Railway) has finally managed to restore rail traffic between Rayagada and Theruvali with some restriction.
Although, operation of some trains on the route are still suspended but the zone has managed resume service on the route with cautions.
“Finally, after a grueling struggle against all odds, the rail traffic between Rayagada and Theruvali has been restored with some restrictions. The speed on the approach of the bridges is restricted to 10 kmph with extreme cautious lookout for any warning sign. Work on the pillars of the bridge is still underway,” said officials of ECoR.
Hundreds of labourers and dozens of machines have been deployed into the restoration task, added officials.
According to the officer, the traffic resumption has been done due to large number of trains getting cancelled and being operated on diverted routes, etc. Still, we cannot say that normal train operations have resumed. One bridge is lying damaged and the other one has just been made fit enough to run with highly restricted speed. Not all trains will be able to pass through the route as the route capacity to run trains has got squeezed. Some trains may remain cancelled for some time while some other trains may be run on diverted routes. A few important trains will, however, resume service now. Senior officials are closely looking after the entire situation.
“General Manager Umesh Singh, who was camping there continuously, left the site only after the first engine trial on the repaired bridge was done successfully,” said the officer.
It may be recalled that heavy rain leading to flood situation in Rayagada district of Odisha washed away a railway bridge after which train operation hit in the zone. In a wake of the incident, operations of several trains have been suspended while some trains have been diverted.
Trains to remain cancelled till further order include 58527/28 Raipur-Visakhapatnam-Raipur passenger, 58529/30 Durg-Visakhapatnam-Durg passenger, 58301/02 Sambalpur-Koraput-Sambalpur passenger, 18301/02 Sambalpur-Rayagada-Sambalpur Intercity, 18107/08 Rourkela-Koraput-Rourkela express, 18211/12 Durg-Jagdalpur-Durg express from Durg and 58131/32 Rourkela-Puri-Rourkela passenger.
