Embracing China ! ;Pakistan to declare Mandarin as one of official language
In yet another major decision that only proves that neighboring Pakistan has gone completely into embrace of China, the Pakistani Senate on Monday approved a motion to declare Mandarin as one of the official languages of Pakistan.
The motion was considered as crucial in view of ties between the two countries who are building China Pakistan Economic Corridor.
The stated reason of the move is that communication between two countries would improve much better if the language of Mandarin was made the official language of Pakistan.
However, Pakistan’s former Ambassador to the US Hussain Haqqani opined that Pakistan has been promoting many languages in the country which are not spoken by the natives.
He recounted English, Urdu, Arabic and now Chinese as among the languages that have been promoted.
Interestingly, while Punjabi is widely spoken in Punjab province of Pakistan, Pashto and many other native languages have not been declared official languages of the country.
Many in Pakistan however feel that the Chinese or Mandarin language is seen as an economic opportunity in Pakistan and that this is why there is not likely to be any resistance to the idea.>
