Body of one militant recovered out of three killed

Exchange of fire in Thamuna village on Friday claimed 3 militants

Srinagar.

The body of a militant who was killed in a gunfight with the security forces a day before in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district, was recovered on Saturday, police said.

Director General of Police S.P. Vaid and an army spokesman had confirmed on Friday that three militants were killed in the gunfight that took place in Thamuna village.

However, police spokesperson said on Saturday that the initial information suggested the presence of three militants inside a house but as the final search was carried out, a lone body of a militant was recovered.

“Apparently, the other hiding militants managed to escape from the spot after firing indiscriminately around the site of encounter,” he said.

The gunfight had started after a joint patrol of the armed forces launched searches on Friday afternoon in the Thamna village of Chatpora.

Meanwhile, Faizan Ahmad Khan, 15, was killed and eight other civilian protesters were injured during clashes that ensued between stone pelters and the security forces near the gunfight site also on Friday.
