After a major protest by police in Gujarat against the state government’s move to acquire land for proposed lignite company in Bhavnagar district, police is said to have detained as many as 50 of the farmers.
It need be mentioned that thousands of farmers had turned up to protest.
The clashes led to 10 people also getting injured in the agitation.
The protest is over the Gujarat Power Corporation Limited acquiring 3377 acres of land from nearly 1,250 farmers across 12 villages under Ghogha taluka in Bhavnagar about two decades ago.
The land remained all these years in the possession of farmers who were cultivating it.
Now the farmers have now been opposing the company’s bid to take possession of the acquired land.
The protesters have demanded the company to initiate fresh proceedings to acquire the contentious land as per the Land Acquisition Act-2013.>
