In raipur, the LGBTQIA+ community members organised a flash mob and theatrical performance outside the Raipur Railway Station.
The activity was part of a series of celebrations for the first Raipur pride march, which is scheduled for September 29.
Sidhant Kumar Behera, organiser, said, “our objective of organising a flash mob was to make LGBTQIA+ people visible in the conservative city like Raipur. From visiblity, we intend to encourage youngsters to come out and connect with activists and the community.”
The people expressed the mixed feelings of surprise and happiness and shock at the flash mob. Although, it was good to see the youngsters turning up to see them perform in large numbers.
Sidhant added that with this performance, they brought up isseues like transgenders looking for jobs but being denied and forced to beg on the streets and how youngsters still face harrassment in the public.
Another member of the community, Akshay, said that performances were an adaptation of various real-life stories, including homelessness, sexual abuse, violence and denial of basic services like education and medical treatment.
