Five inmates died; in prison riot in Venezuela

In a major outbreak of violence, at least five inmates are known to have died in a riot at a prison in the central Venezuelan state of Carabobo.

Several police officers have also sustained injuries.

Sources said that the five inmates died because of burns and smoke inhalation.

It is said that the disturbances may have started in the wee hours of the Wednesday itself.

But the officials have not yet offered any information.

After the riot, an anxious lot of the family members gathered in front of the police station to demand information.
