Kochi: Former Kerala Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party legislator Thomas Chandy died on Friday,the party said.He was 72.
Chandy was the state president of his party
He was suffering from cancer and was being treated at a private hospital here when he breathed his last,a party official said.
The former transport minister is also state president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Kerala.
Thomas Chandy has represented Kuttanadu thrice.He was a transport minister in the Pinarayi Vijayan Ministry.
Thomas Chandy started his political career with Kerala Students Union (KSU).He was selected as the KSU president in Kuttanad and later the president of Youth Congress.
After entering active politics with Congress,Thomas Chandy aligned himself with the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) (DIC (K).He then moved the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
He was the lone DIC(K)MLA from UDF in the 2006 elections.In 2011,he aligned with LDF as an NCP member.
Thomas Chandy is is survived by wife Mercy and their son and two daughters.
