Amid controversy and various points of views, former president Pranab Mukherjee arrives in Nagpur on Wednesday evening to attend a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) event.
This comes amid the opposition parties criticizing him for accepting the invite.
Mukherjee is slated to address the valedictory function of the RSS’s third-year officers’ training camp at its headquarters in Reshimbagh on Thursday.
Sources informed that the former President will stay for two nights at the Governor’s house before leaving for the national capital on Friday noon.
For the event, around 700 swayamsevaks from across the country will participate in the camp.
The event is christened as the Sangh Shiksha Varga (Sangh training class).
The RSS said it had invited the former president in keeping with a tradition of calling eminent people to the annual event.
However, another section in the Congress felt that bridging the political divide was the need of the hour in a democracy so fragmented that it even hurts national interests at times.
Senior swayamsevaks pointed out that Pranab Mukherjee also had called RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to the Rashtrapati Bhavan during his tenure as president.>
