Fuel prices continue to surge as govt appears clueless

petrol price was Sunday raised by 28 paise a litre

With the continuing political tug of war over fuel prices rising, the petrol and diesel prices set fresh records on Sunday.

The petrol price was Sunday raised by 28 paise a litre and diesel by 19 paise per litre, according to the price notification issued by state fuel retailers.

With this, the price of petrol in Delhi climbed to Rs 81.91 per litre today from Rs 81.63 on Saturday and diesel to Rs 73.72 a litre from Rs 73.54.

Including today’s price hike, petrol and diesel prices have risen nearly Rs 3.50 per litre in this month so far.

The government has already made its stance clear that it will not cut excise duty on fuel as this will impact its planned expenditures.

Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government has planned to blend ethanol with petrol to reduce dependency on external imports.

But the ethanol prices were also hiked by the government by 25 per cent.
