Visiting head of state Frank-Walter Steinmeier, German President, accompanied by his wife visited the historic Jama Masjid in Delhi on Friday.
It need be mentioned that Steinmeier is on a five-day visit to India and aims to boost the bilateral ties between the two countries.
It need be recalled that Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in India with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees.
The visit of the German President is being seen as an outreach attempt towards another major democracy India.
This visit is also first such high level engagement between the two countries since Chancellor Angela Merkel was sworn in on March 14.
German President Steinmeier will also visit the Museum in Sarnath and a Buddhist temple in Varanasi at the start of his trip.
He will then hold interactions with students of Banaras Hindu University and participate in the Ganga ‘arti’.
He is also scheduled to fly to Chennai where German companies are mostly invested.
It is crucial to note that Germany is India’s largest trading partner in Europe with renewable energy, cleaning of rivers, smart cities, railways as key sectors of cooperation.
