Gold worth near Rs 2 crore seized by Enforcement Directorate

In a significant seizure, the Department of Revenue Intelligence has apprehended gold worth Rs 1.68 crore as it was smuggled into India from Myanmar.

The agency has also arrested three people in this connection.

The arrest and seizure came about as the three deboarded a train at Howrah Railway Station.

DRI officials recovered 34 gold bars of foreign origin cumulatively weighing 5.6 kg and valued at Rs 1.68 crore from the accused, it was said.

It is now known that the gold smuggled from Myanmar through Moreh in Manipur was being shifted on the Saraighat Express from Guwahati to Howrah.
