Raipur: Governor on Friday gave approval to the Ordinance of Chhattisgarh Government seeking amendments in the Urban Administration Act for conducting the elections to the post of Mayor through Corporators as well as other changes being made including the minimum age of 21 years required for the post of Mayor. With the approval from Governor House, the Ordinance would be published in Gazette of Chhattisgarh Government on the basis of which the upcoming Civic Bodies elections would be held in the month of November- December.
It is notable that the State Cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday evening had given consent to the Ordinance under which several changes in the process of conducting upcoming Civic Bodies has been made. With the above clearance of Ordinance from Raj Bhawan, the ruling Congress Government has crossed the first step to conduct the upcoming Civic Bodies elections as per the strategy.
Chhattisgarh Election Commission too would begin the exercise for the Civic Bodies elections once the Ordinance is published in Gazette. It is understood that the announcement for the Civic Bodies elections would be done early November once the Chhattisgarh Foundation Day celebrations gets over on November 3.
