In response to a query on Chirmiri-Barwadih railway project, the government has replied that the Railways had approached the state government for land and then coal India for money but there has been no response from both sides till now.
The government informed the upper House that the project stand not approved as yet.
The query had been raised by Ram Vichar Netam, Rajya Sabha member and BJP leader.
Though Netam had sought a reply on five points, the Railways Minister of State informed the house that the survey work had been carried out back in 2011-12 for cost of Rs 1104 crores on the project.
A conditional approval was given to the project that the state government would provide free of cost land to the Railways for the project.
It was also said that the state government at the time had been advised to urge for co-development of the project to the Coal India.
The project had to be shelved due to either of the parties not replying since then.
The central government also said that a consultant firm has been appointed to advise the state government on how to make the project profitable and also how to make the whole project feasible.>
