After much political deliberations, the Union Law Ministry has now known to have approved filing of review petition in Supreme Court on SC/ST Act.
The Union Law Ministry had earlier told the Supreme Court that it is opposed to introducing the concept of ‘creamy layer’ within the SC/ST category.
The top court had been at the time hearing petition that sought to exclude SC/ST creamy layer from accessing reservation benefits.
The ruling caused the opposition parties including the Congress to criticize central government as anti-Dalit.
Another of the ruling of the top court was that the sanction of the appointing authority would be required before arrest or prosecution of the accused under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.>
