As part of nation wide Gram Swaraj Abhiyaan, the state of Chhattisgarh celebrated ‘Swaccha Bharat Divas’ on April 18.
The occasion was celebrated across the 10971 gram panchayats of the Chhattisgarh state.
On the occasion, people contributed labour to clean the religious and public places.
Gram Sabhas were organized in different locations across state where people deliberated on the issue of cleanliness and sanitation.
Activities such as ‘Swacchata Matdaan and Ratri Chaupals’ were also held under the campaign.
Even the schools were involved in a big way where the students were encouraged to take part in different contests based on theme of ‘Swaccha Bharat’.
Panchayat and Rural Development Director Taran Prakash Sinha briefed on the occasion and highlighted that different programs have been organized at different levels of the state administration to make sure that open defecation free status is not only achieved but also sustained.
There was also attempts to honour and felicitate people who contributed well to the community in terms of promoting Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan.
The felicitation was held of masses and even individuals.
Awareness was another critical aspect that was considered and to this end, motrocycle rallies and Swacchata Raths were taken out in procession.
Workshops on solid and liquid waste management were also organized at district and block levels.
The naxal affected areas were given special focus as in masses in these areas were motivate to achieve total open defecation free status.>
