In yet another ghastly naxal attack in restive Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, two policemen and a video journalist lost their lives.
This is when the Dantewada district will witness voting for stat election next month itself.
The video journalist belonged to national broadcaster Doordarshan.
Two other policemen have sustained injuries in the attack.
It was later told that the three-member Doordarshan team was in the Maoist-affected region for election coverage.
Sources confirmed that the attack took place in the forests in Aranpur village in Dantewada.
Confirming the attack, P Sunder Raj, who is the DIG Naxal Ops, said that police party had gone to the area for patrolling and the Doordarshan crew was with them at the time of attack.
He said that those killed were identified as Sub Inspector Rudra Pratap, Assistant Constable Mangalu and DD News cameraman Achyutanand Sahu from Delhi.
It is also now known that two other Doordarshan crew members are safe.
Addressing a press conference, the officer said security forces are keeping a close watch in the neighbouring areas after the Dantewada attack. He said extra forces will be deployed in Dantewada and Bijapur.
Two people were injured in the Maoist attack in Dantewada.
Union Minister Arun Jaitley condemned attack.
The 90 seats of the Chhattisgarh Assembly will vote in two phases – November 12 and November 20.
