Hafiz Saeed files petition against arrest; ahead of UNSC team’s visit
Apprehensive of yet another arrest, the Mumbai attack mastermind and Jamat ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed on Tuesday filed a petition in the Lahore High Court seeking protection from arrest.
The petition has been timed, according to the sources, ahead of the arrival of the UNSC’s sanctions monitoring team.
It need be mentioned that the monitoring committee of the United Nations Security Council 1267 Sanctions Committee will be visiting Islamabad this week for an assessment of Islamabad’s compliance with the world body’s sanctions regime.
The team is likely to make a visit from Thursday.
The founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) said the government of Pakistan has plans to take adverse action against him.
Saeed has now begun propagating that the Punjab government of Shahbaz Sharif had detained him for 10 months without proper legal ground and that it was only after review from a judicial board that the government released him. >
