Harsimrat Kaur Badal Tweeted about a War of Words Triggered

A day after Union Cabinet Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal tweeted that Navjot Singh Sidhu met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over Kartapur corridor opening proposal, the two leaders got into an argument.

Union Cabinet Minister, of Food Processing Harsimrat Kaur Badal‘s tweet on Monday triggered a war of words between Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and Badal.

On Monday, she had tweeted that the External Affairs Minister (EAM) had reprimanded Sidhu for ‘messing up’ Kartapur Sahib corridor dialogue.

While Sidhu said that he has explained to EAM, the need for opening the Kartarpur corridor, Kaur alleged that Sidhu was playing with the people’s sentiments.

Meanwhile, EAM Swaraj stated that Pakistan government had not agreed to include visits to Kartapur Sahib by Indian pilgrims.

“We had a detailed discussion during the meeting, explained to her(EAM) about the necessity of opening of the Kartarpur corridor.

A formal request should go from India’s side. EAM said to me, ‘the draft is being prepared & I will write a letter,” Sidhu said, adding, “I had written in my letter to EAM that ‘kindly send a formal request from MEA to Govt of Pak requesting an early agreement & opening of the Kartarpur passage after current monsoon season.”

Swaraj, however, stated that Pakistani government ‘has so far neither agreed to include visits to Kartarpur Sahib by Indian pilgrims under bilateral protocol nor has sent an official communication for establishing the corridor’.

“No official communication from Pak over Kartarpur Sahib,” Swaraj said.”When he (Sidhu) returned he was shown black flags, everyone was angry that he went there and hugged someone who kills our people.

Instead of apologising, he played with people’s sentiments…He said he hugged General as he said Kartarpur corridor will be opened.

But the truth is, no Pakistani govt has so far communicated anything on this…Everyone forgot that he (Sidhu) went to an enemy nation. Weeks passed, but the Congress minister couldn’t produce any document,” Badal said.
