Having served as cook in Indian diplomat’s home in Pak; he is now arrested

In a major breakthrough, a man who worked as a cook in an Indian diplomat’s house in Pakistan till last year has been arrested.

The police made the arrest on the suspicion that he may have bugged the diplomat’s house and allowed the information to be passed on to the Pakistani ISI.

The man hails from Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district.

Identified as Ramesh Singh, he was a cook at the residence of a senior officer with the Indian Embassy in Pakistan.

His stint in the neighboring country was between 2015 and 2017.

Police now says that apart from the diplomat’s residence, even his laptop and phone may also have been bugged.

He used to go through the laptop, other electronic devices, diaries and files to pass on information to ISI agents, the police said.

According to the police, Ramesh claimed he had agreed to work for the ISI to repay his debts and was paid in dollars.

Ramesh had got the job at the diplomat’s house in Pakistan through his brother who is in the Indian Army.
