In yet another major move, the Indian Army chief Bipin Rawat said that they are currently contemplating setting up a Permanent Commission for women in the forces.
He said that there are positions where in male officers clearly don’t fit and thus women will be able to do them better.
The Army chief said that woman officers will help a great deal in the command-oriented Army.
However, they will not be taken in the front-line combat role.
The Army chief further said that some fields that require permanency including military diplomacy, women officers will be beneficial.
This comes after PM Narendra Modi had announced in his independence day speech that a Permanent Commission for Short Service.>
