With the outcry and critical media and civil society voices, the Uttar Pradesh police police has admitted that law was violated and excessive force was used in the murder of an employee of an international company by two constables.
UP police chief OP Singh went ahead and promised speedy justice and strict action against the accused.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Apple executive Vivek Tiwari, who was shot at in the early hours of Saturday by one of the constables in Lucknow.
The police version is that the constables perhaps tried to ask the man to stop his SUV but instead of doing so, he tried to speed away.
But the victim’s co-passenger narrated that they didn’t realise that they were being stopped by the police.
She said that as they tried to bypass the police, their car hit the police bike.
It was when while one of the cops had a baton, it was the other one who pulled out a revolver and fired, the woman said.
Vivek Tiwari was taken to the hospital with a bullet injury on his neck.
The bullet hit Mr Tiwari’s chin and got stuck between the neck and the head leading to his death due to profuse bleeding, his post-mortem report said today.>
