Hichki is one of the most intriguing releases of this year. And while the buzz around the film was not sky high, looks like it has taken a strong start at the box office.
Released in just 961 screens, Hichki has managed to rake in Rs 3.50 crore, acccording to early trade estimates. As trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed on Twitter, “Power of SOLID CONTENT. Early trends suggest SUPER-STRONG evening + night shows for #Hichki. Fri *early estimates* between Rs 3.35 cr and Rs 3.50 cr [on 961 screens]. Audience feedback is supremely positive. Final numbers tomorrow.”
Considering the niche subject, the limited release and the low buzz, Hichki has performed exceedingly well. In fact, many big releases with big stars and a larger buzz have not raked in such an amount over the past few years. This clearly proves content is king and if the film is really good, the people will go in to see it.
Rani Mukerji’s performance is outstanding in the movie and the storyline is quite intriguing too. And with the critics and movie going audience raving about Hichki, a decent word of mouth publicity has developed for it. This has enabled it to rake in such an amount on day one and we are sure it will see an upward trend over the first weekend.>
