High Alert issued for parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu; heres why it has been issued
In view of heavy depression in the Indian Ocean region and acquiring cyclonic storm ‘OCKHI’, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday put the southern districts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu on high alert.
Heavy rains lashed the southern districts of Kerala and disaster management authorities have issued a warning and asked people to remain indoors. Educational institutions were also kept shut in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts.
There were reports of many landslides in the hilly regions.
The weather office has predicted rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over south Tamil Nadu and south Kerala during next 24 hours and isolated heavy rains over interior Tamil Nadu and Kerala during subsequent 24 hours.>
