Johnny Depp has denied physically abusing his ex-wife Amber Heard, claiming it was she who repeatedly attacked him during their turbulent relationship.
In court documents the Hollywood star claimed Heard threw a vodka bottle at him severing his finger, leading him to contract MRSA which he feared might cause him to “lose his life”.
He also accused Heard of having “painted-on bruises” when she went to a judge to obtain a restraining order against him.
Depp, 55, also claimed he decided to divorce the actress after “Ms Heard or one of her friends” defecated in his bed as a “sick prank”.
A lawyer for Heard vehemently rejected Depp’s allegations, made in a court filing in Virginia, as “baseless conspiracy theories” and accused him of being “increasingly desperate” to revive his movie career.
In a statement Eric George said: “The evidence in this case is clear: Johnny Depp repeatedly beat Amber Heard.
“The increasingly desperate attempts by Mr Depp and his enablers to revive his career by initiating baseless litigation against so many people once close to him – his former lawyers, former managers, and his former spouse – are not fooling anyone.”
In his court filing he claimed Heard “hit, punched and kicked” him, and threw things at him including “heavy bottles, soda cans, burning candles, television remote controls, and paint thinner cans”.
He claimed that, shortly after their marriage in 2015, Heard attacked him because she was asked to sign a post-nuptial agreement.
Depp claimed: “She went berserk and began throwing bottles at me. The first bottle sailed past my head and missed, but then she threw a large glass vodka bottle.”
It hit a marble counter top and then then his finger, severing it, he claimed.
Depp claimed: “I had to have three surgeries to reconstruct my finger and contracted MRSA three times. I feared that I would lose my finger, my arm and my life.
“She was the perpetrator, and I was the victim. While mixing prescription amphetamines and non-prescription drugs with alcohol, Ms Heard committed innumerable acts of domestic violence against me.”
He added: “I have denied Ms Heard’s allegations vehemently since she first made them in May 2016 when she walked into court to obtain a temporary restraining order with painted-on bruises.
“I will continue to deny them for the rest of my life. I never abused Ms Heard or any other woman.”
Describing an incident in 2016, Depp claimed: “After I removed myself from Ms Heard’s presence in the penthouse on April 21, 2016, the following morning Ms Heard or one of her friends defecated in my bed as some sort of sick prank before they left for Coachella together.
“As a result of the years of domestic abuse I had suffered at the hands of Ms. Heard – most recently the April 21 physical attack and defecation on my bed sometime before she and her friends left the next morning – I resolved to divorce Ms Heard.”
In May 2016 Heard obtained a restraining order against Depp after accusing him of “violently attacking” her.
