Home Minister Rajnath Singh says CRPF plays an important role in establishing peace in maoist areas

Convocation Ceremony of CRPF's Bastariya Battalion held

Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh said that talent is not found only in cities or among affluent class, rather the remote rural forest region of Bastar also yields gems of talents. He said that Central Security Forces and Police Force are working with mutual coordination to establish peace in maoist-affected areas.

Union Home Minister Mr. Singh was addressing the convocation parade ceremony of Bastariya Battalion in additional training centre of Central Security Force’s 241st Battalion in Kepi village of Sarguja today. On the occasion, the personnel were felicitated for their significant achievements in various fields.

Union Home Minister Mr. Singh greeted the family members of the personnel, who took part in the passing out parade of Bastariya Battalion, and congratulated them for raising such brave men.

He said that he felt extremely proud to watch the parade of Bastariya Battalion. Mr. Singh said that tribal community is patriotic and they have always made contribution in times of challenges. This is the reason why rules were slackened to provide opportunity to youth of Bastar to be recruited in Bastariya Battlion.

Mr. Singh said that maoists and terrorists are posing to be threat for country, but CRPF and Police are working with better coordination which has resulted in decline of casualties by 53-55%and has also confined the geographical area occupied by them by 40-45%. He said that maoist forces do not want development in remote areas of Bastar and they want tribal people to remain poor.

Union Home Minister Mr. Singh said that the Maoists responsible for bloodshed of innocent tribal people will not be spared. He asked the personnel, who have completed CRPF training, that now they have become an important part of CRPF and now they can glorify the name of Bastar by actively combating the anti-social elements.

Earlier villagers did not used to have information about CRPF, but now people across the country have gained confidence in CRPF that when CRPF takes up a task they accomplish it successfully. Union Home Minister said to the family members of CRPF personnel that government is always standing by their side in times of crisis.

He said that the sacrifices of personnel can never be repaid but government has decided to provide ex-gratia amount of minimum Rs one crore to the families of the martyrs. He said that the personnel suffering physical disabilities will be provided proper financial aid. Home Minister Mr. Singh said that Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh aims to ensure all-round development of tribal areas such as Bastar, and Central Government will offer every possible support to him.

Mr. Singh said that a grievance redressal cell has been established to provide assistance to families of the martyrs. At the onset, Union Home Minister Mr. Singh inspected the parade and took salute of the passing out parade.

Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh thanked Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh for providing opportunity of recruitment in Bastariya Battalion in Chhattisgarh. He said that observing the excellent performance of parade by Bastariya Battalion, I am convinced that these youth will successfully establish peace in Bastar. He added that all these personnel have earlier rendered their services to government as SPOs etc, who have now become the CRPF personnel.

Director General of CRPF Mr. RR Bhatnagar said that after recruitment in Bastar Battalion, these youngsters have completed training of 44 weeks and now they are all ready to combat the naxalites in affected areas. On the occasion, Deputy Commandent Mr. Prabhat Kumar Singh administered oath to the new personnel. Parade Command Mr. Rajendra Prasad Regar headed the march-past performed on the occasion. Besides, mesmerizing cultural programme based on folk culture of Bastar was also staged.

The convocation ceremony was attended by Chhattisgarh’s Home, Jail and PHE Minister Mr. Ramsevak Paikra, Sarguja MP Mr. Kamalbhan Singh, Member of Rajya Sabha Mr. Ramvichar Netam, Additional Chief Secretary Home Mr. BVR Subramaniam, Director General of Police Mr. AN Upadhyay, Additional Director General of Police CRPF Mr. Kuldeep Singh, Inspector General of Police Mr. Sanjay Arora were present on the occasion.

Also present were Commissioner Sarguja Division Mr. Avinash Champawat, Inspector General of Police Sarguja Range Mr. Himanshu Gupta, Collector Mrs. Kiran Kaushal, Superintendent of Police Mr. Sadanand Kumar, prominent citizens and family members of Bastar Battalion personnel.
