Honeypreet named in chargesheet as masterminds of Panchkula violence; heres all about it
Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan has been identified as one of the masterminds of the violence at Panchkula on August 25 in which 36 people were killed in police firing.
Dera supporters had turned violent immediately after Gurmeet was convicted by a CBI court of raping two of his sadhvis. Cops had fired at the rioters to quell the violence, leading to the deaths.
While the police have named 16 other persons in the case, Honeypreet has been singled out for allegedly chairing a meeting of the dera’s core committee on August 17 in which the violence is believed to have been planned.
All of them have been charged with sedition and related sections, criminal conspiracy and unlawful assembly. ACP Mukesh Malhotra, who headed the investigations, filed the 1,200-page charge sheet on Tuesday in the court of the Panchkula chief judicial magistrate (CJM).
For the time being, the chargesheet does not accuse Gurmeet of any kind of direct or indirect involvement in the violence. Honeypreet and other accused appeared in court from Ambala jail through video-conferencing.
According to the chargesheet, Honeypreet has confessed to chairing the meeting of the core committee where plans were made to send Dera followers to Panchkula ahead of the conviction. She has admitted to hatching the plot of causing violence in case the CBI court convicted Gurmeet, the chargesheet read.
Others who have been charged in the case are her aide Sukhdeep Kaur, Rakesh Kumar Arora, Surender Dhiman Insan, Pardeep Goyal Insan, Chamkaur Singh Insan, Dan Singh, Govind Ram, Khairati Lal, Dilawar Insan, Gurmeet Singh and Sharanjeet Singh.>
