In a country obsessed with fairness, it is not entirely rare that husband may taunt his wife with ‘Kaali Kaluti’ (pitch black) barb, but it may have unintended consequences.
In such a case, the Punjab and Haryana high court has allowed a woman from Mahendergarh in Haryana to divorce her husband on ground of mistreatment and cruelty.
The wife had argued in the court that she was often humiliated infront of other people by her husband because of her skin colour.
The taunts would be showered for not preparing food timely.
The court termed it to be mental and physical cruelty to the wife.
A division bench of Justice M M S Bedi and Justice Gurvinder Singh Gill passed the orders allowing the divorce while setting aside the verdict of the family court in Mahendergarh, which had dismissed the wife’s plea.>
