With the Indian Air Force carrying out its biggest air force exercise till date, the IAF chief announced that the forces has completed a staggering 5,000 sorties by fighter jets in 3 days.
The sorties were carried out on western front towards Pakistan as part of test of operational readiness.
The massive scaled war games has been christened “Gagan Shakti” and is pan-India in scope and purview.
The Indian Air Force would now carry out similar maneuvers on the northern borders towards China from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh.
Despite the IAF having only 31 fighter squadrons as compared to the 42 estimated requirement to take on the Pakistan-China threat, the Indian Air Force honed its war-fighting skills by testing both offensive and defensive capabilities on the two fronts.
All air assets and ground controls of the Indian Air Force have been pressed to test the real time coordination and war scenario.
The IAF sources said that the focus in the eastern front along China border is to operate from dispersed locations to avoid rockets from enemy forces and to make deep strikes.>
